Intoximeters introduces the Alco-Sensor FST as the newest generation of instruments in the Alco-Sensor line of portable hand-held instruments. Most people will first notice the sleek new look of he instrument. The FST includes new features that result in significant changes in the appearance of the instrument. For example, the instrument has an ergonomic grip that fits comfortably into either the right or left hand. The display of the instrument faces the back, enabling right-handed and left-handed operators to use the FST with equal comfort. The back-facing display also enables the operator to readily view the display messages while conducting a test while still maintaining control of the subject.
The Alco-Sensor FST continues the ease of use common to all Alco-Sensor instruments. The operator uses two easily accessible buttons to turn the instrument on and activate the various features of the instrument. A single press of the ON button starts a test sequence. When the instrument displays the message BLOW, the operator prompts the subject to blow into the mouthpiece. The automatic breath sampling feature ensures that the subject blows long and hard enough, then automatically takes a sample of the breath. The operator need only hold the instrument and observe the instrument display. Within seconds of taking the breath sample, the FST displays the results. An auto-off feature turns the instrument off without the need to press the OFF button. |

The Alco-Sensor FST uses a newly designed self-aligning mouthpiece that attaches easily to the instrument. The design enables the operator to attach the mouthpiece almost by feel by inserting the closed end of the mouthpiece into the end of the top channel of the FST and then seating the mouthpiece. The breath exit port on the mouthpiece directs the subject’s breath safely up and away from the operator.
Every Alco-Sensor FST includes a passive test feature that enables the instrument to test for the presence of alcohol without the need for using a mouthpiece. The operator attaches a special cup in place of the mouthpiece, selects the passive mode with several presses of the buttons, and directs the subject to blow or talk in the direction of the FST. The FST displays either NEG for a negative result, or POS when it detects alcohol. The operator can then replace the passive sampling cup with a mouthpiece and conduct a direct test of the subject to determine the subject’s intoxication level. |
